A free health initiative that aims to help Hartlepool men lose weight, get fitter and become more active is being expanded.
Hartlepool Borough Council is joining forces with Hartlepool United Community Sports Foundation and the EFL Trust to run a 12-week FIT POOLIES course as part of the trust’s national FIT FANS programme.
The free initiative, open to men aged 35 to 65, will combine classroom sessions on nutrition and lifestyle changes with physical activity. It gets underway on Monday 23rd January 6.00pm to 7.30pm at Hartlepool United FC’s Suit Direct Stadium, Clarence Road, Hartlepool TS24 8BZ
To be eligible, men must have a Body Mass Index (BMI) of 28+ and a waist measurement of at least 38 inches.
Places on the programme are limited and anyone who is interested in taking part can register at www.efltrust.com/fitfans or email Fit.Fans@hartlepoolunited.co.uk or Tel: 01429 862595
Keith Nobbs, Manager of the Hartlepool United Community Sports Foundation, said: “Over 12 weeks, FIT POOLIES will give participants all the tools, information and support they need to make small, manageable changes to their lifestyles that can in turn make a huge difference to their lives generally.
“Previous participants have told us how much they got from the initiative, so I would encourage anyone wanting to be fitter and healthier in 2023- and beyond to sign up without delay.”
Beverley Hall-Jones, Advanced Public Health Practitioner with Hartlepool Borough Council, added: “A range of serious health conditions, including heart disease, Type 2 diabetes and some cancers, can be a consequence of being overweight or obese.
“FIT POOLIES provides a supportive environment where like-minded men can come together and have the opportunity to make changes in their lives and improve their health and wellbeing in the longer-term.”
